Do you find yourself feeling hollow in your stomach because you are bored? How many times do you eat because you don't have anything better to do? It's not an exaggeration; millions of people overeat because they are bored!

Boredom can lead to uncontrolled eating. Many times, such people do not even realize what they are doing. Before they know it, the packet of salted peanuts is empty or the tub of ice cream has been wiped clean!

Yet, it is possible to stop boredom eating. Indeed, it is the most sensible thing to do because you do not want to develop diabetes, high blood pressure, high levels of cholesterol and kidney problems just because you were bored, do you?

Some tips to help you stop boredom eating:
- Understand yourself: Become aware of the difference between biological hunger and hunger induced by boredom.

- Replace: Instead of eating something sinfully rich, drink a glass of water or chew on a stick of carrot. Might as well get healthy while you're at it!

- Communicate: You're bored when you are alone or when you do not enjoy the company you're in. Why not change all that by getting in touch with someone who makes you feel good? Find other outlets for boredom.

- Take up an activity you like: The best way to get rid of boredom eating is to chuck the boredom. And the best way to do that? Your favorite activities, of course. Crochet, draw, write, paint, sing - do whatever it takes to kill boredom.

- Exercise: Yeah, we know. This might look like the last thing you want to do when you're bored. But, shaking a limb and working up a sweat can actually make you feel good. Try it.

- Store food sensibly: When you know that you are vulnerable to boredom eating, the most sensible thing to do is stop storing food that attracts you. If there is nothing 'interesting' to munch on, you'll be too bored to eat!
